Cathode-Independent Polymer Solar Cells Integrated with Composites of Metal Oxide and Metal Carbonate as an Electron Transport Material |

Sol-gel processed metal oxides doped with metal carbonates are developed as electron transport materials for efficient polymer solar cells based on poly(3-hexylthiophene) in bulk-heterojunction composite with fullerene derivative [6,6]-phenyl C71-butyric acid methyl ester (P3HT:PC70BM). The doped metal oxides can be solution-processed on hydrophobic active layer and form strong interfacial dipole because of the amphiphilic property of metal oxides and the strong interfacial dipoles of metal carbonates. By introducing the doped metal oxides layer between the active layer and the high work function cathode (e.g., Ag or Cu), we demonstrate cathode-independent PSCs with comparable power conversion efficiencies to conventional devices with low work function cathode (e.g, Al). |
