Photo-responsive property of azopolymers has attracted significant research interest for their broad range of potential applications. Upon exposure to light, azo polymers undergo reversible trans-cis isomerization, which results in mass transport in the polymer matrix (“athermal photofluidization”). Based on this phenomenon, in this study, we aimed to explore new possibility of azopolymers as a director of universal 1-dimensional (1D) nanomaterials. Azopolymer nanocomposite microparticles containing ZnO nanowires (NWs) were synthesized through microfluidic system, followed by irradiation of linearly polarized laser beam (467nm). With anisotropic deformation of microparticles, the encapsulated NWs were successfully aligned along the direction of polarized light owing to the internal photo-induced mass migration of azopolymers. |
