Mechanical Properties of Two-Dimensional Honeycomb Structures |

In order to study the structure-property relationships of patterned polymer architectures depending on their symmetry, two-dimensional (2D) honeycomb structures were prepared with acrylonitrile butadiene rubber. Utilizing an extensometer, mechanical properties of 2D honeycomb structures with respect to the different symmetrical directions were evaluated. Experimental results combined with computer simulations indicate that mechanical properties depend on the number of holes as well as the axes of the hexagonal symmetry. Understanding of the structure-property relationships of 2D honeycomb structures can pave a new insight for the patterned polymer architectures. |
