Synthesis of highly crosslinked dicyclopentadiene polymer films using PECVD and their applications. |

We successfully synthesized plasma-polymerized films from a highly crosslinkable monomer, dicyclopentadiene using a low-temperature plasma process as an anti-corrosion coating for Cu metal plates. Plasma-enhanced deposition of polymer films from a dicyclopentadiene precursor was carried out using radio frequency (13.6 MHz) plasma generation with argon or nitrogen carrier gas and varying the input power. The surface of plasma-polymerized PDCPD using argon carrier gas was more hydrophobic than with nitrogen carrier gas, which can be attributed to the formation of C-N-CHx bonds from nitrogen dissociation. All plasma-polymerized films showed very high inhibition efficiencies, although the plasma-polymerized DCPDs had different anti-corrosion properties depending on the carrier gas. And also, we confirmed the anti-corrosion properties of plasma-polymerized PDCPD films using cell viability experiment, which is in well accord with the anti-corrosion measurement by electrochemistry. |
