Novel Evaluation Method of Active and Inactive Electrode for Electrochemical Oxidants Generation |

Electrochemical oxidant generation is highly dependent on the electrode materials. The electrodes are classified as active and inactive electrode according to the hydroxyl radical binding energy. However, it is hard to measure the binding energy so that the simple method for classifying the active and inactive electrode is necessary. In this research, novel evaluation method was suggested by measuring the electrochemically generated chlorine concentration using the hydroxyl radical scavenger. Inactive ratio was defined to quantify the active and inactive electrode. Inactive ratio was calculated as the ratio of decreased chlorine concentration when t-BuOH and MeOH was added as the hydroxyl radical scavenger. The RuO2, IrO2, BDD, PbO2, Blue TiO2 and Black TiO2 were classified as active and inactive electrode according to the inactive ratio. |
