제목 Effect of purge strategy on polymer electrolyte fuel cell in a dead-ended anode
초록 Polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFC) have been actively studied due to their low operating temperature and high energy conversion efficiency. A dead-end anode (DEA) system is mainly used in order to get high fuel utilization and simplified balance of plants (BOP) on PEMFC. Flooding phenomenon could be occurred due to the accumulated water in anode during DEA operation. So periodic purge is performed to remove excess water and nitrogen. Unused fuel is also discharged and fuel cell voltage is decreased during purge. Purge strategy should be optimized in order to obtain high fuel utilization and stable fuel cell performance. In this study, we analyzed flooding phenomenon by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). According to purge conditions, the effect of the purge condition on PEMFC performance and fuel efficiency was investigated.
