Fabrication of Thermochemical Hydrogen Sensor Based on Chalcogenide Layer over Pt/alumina Catalyst |

We report the energy efficient thermochemical hydrogen (TCH) sensors composed of thermoelectric thin films and hydrogen oxidation catalyst such as Pt/alumina powder. Thermoelectric thin films were synthesized two types: n-type bismuth telluride was prepared as a monomorphic type sensor. N-P junction type were utilized for the preparation of n-type bismuth telluride and p-type antimony telluride layer. The Pt/alumina powder as a hydrogen oxidation catalyst, was synthesized by co-precipitation method. Variation of voltage was measured without any external power source. The monomorphic-type TCH sensor showed an output signal of 4.3 µV in response to 3 vol% hydrogen gas, whereas an output signal of 9.5 µV was obtained from a N-P junction–type TCH sensor. When evaluated by the same deposition area of each type sensors, the output signal of the N-P junction type was enhanced 2.2 times higher than monomorphic one in 3% H2/air at room temperature. |
