Isocyanates is industrially produced by reaction between amine and phosgene which is known as harmful due to their toxicity. The methoxycarbonylation of an aromatic amine with dimethyl carbonate can be an attractive route to replace the phosgene process. In this study, Zeolitic Imidazole Framework-7 (ZIF-7) has been explored the catalytic activity for aniline and DMC to produce methyl phenyl carbamate (MPC). ZIF-7 was prepared by the solvothermal method, in which four types of difference zinc precursor, such as Zn(OAc)2, ZnCl2, Zn(NO3)2, and ZnBr2 reacts with benzimidazole. The aniline conversion and MPC yield reached 97.9% and 69.8%, respectively at 190 °C for 2h reaction. Reusability study showed the MPC yield increased to 92.9% after 6th use with decreased methylated side product. The catalyst was characterized using Fourier Transform Infrared, Scanning Electron Microscopy, X-ray Diffraction, and 1H-NMR to observe the changes of chemical structure, morphology, and crystallinity. |
