제목 Enhanced biomass through a repeated sequential auto-and heterotrophic culture mode in Chlorella protothecoides
초록 There is a limit to the increase in biomass productivity under autotrophy, as continuous light decreases photosynthetic efficiency. Mixotrophy has major challenges to address, such as reducing absorption of organic carbon, reduced photosynthetic efficiency, and cost of supplying organic carbon sources. To solve this problem, repeated sequential auto-and heterotropic culture mode, autotrophy is applied in the light cycle, and heterotrophy is used in the dark cycle, was used. This culture mode not only increases biomass productivity compared to typical mixotrophic mode (higher than 32.3%), but also preserves carbon dioxide reduction efficiency while maintaining carbon fixation rate. New culture mode can maintain conversion efficiency of organic carbon sources to biomass by keeping the concentration of low organic carbon sources under the dark cycle. In addition, it is not necessary to supply high concentrations of organic carbon sources, so it is possible to achieve economic feasibility.
