Effects of High Speed Electrochemical Oxidation of Carbon Fibers on Interfacial Shear Strength |

This studyevaluated the effects of high speed electrochemical oxidation conditions on thesurface properties of carbon fibers (CFs) and their interfacial shear strengths(IFSS) with epoxy and polypropylene (PP) resins. The surface morphology andproperties of CFs before and after electrochemical oxidation were monitored bySEM, FT-IR, XPS, and contact angle. The IFSS of CF/epoxy and CF/PP was evaluatedby a micro-bond method. As a result, the electrochemical oxidation acceleratedthe formation of additional oxygen functional groups on the CF surface, resultingin enhancing the interfacial adhesion between the CF and resins. |
