Metal sulfide and its carbon-modified composite were prepared by simple solid state synthetic methods, and their electrochemical properties were evaluated to investigate their potential as anode material for Li-ion batteries (LIBs). The metal sulfide/carbon composite anode was composed of amorphous metal sulfide evenly dispersed within an amorphous carbon matrix, which was confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The metal sulfide/carbon composite anode exhibited high initial coulombic efficiency of 76.4% and a high reversible capacity of 881 mAh g-1 after 300 cycles (capacity retention: 94%). In addition, The metal sulfide/carbon composite anode showed superior rate capability (800, 763 and 695 mAh g-1 at 2C, 3C and 5C, respectively) |
