Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells with Ionic Liquid-Based Pseudo-solid Ionic Gel Electrolytes |

Although an impressive light-to-electricity conversion efficiency, solvent-based electrolytes have practical limitation of sealing and long-term operation. So we designed pseudo-solid ionic gel electrolytes by introducing two different block copolymers based on 1-propyl-3-methyl imidazolium iodide/Iodine ionic liquid electrolytes. The gelation of block copolymer formed gel electrolyte systems having different modulus might have effect on interfacial contact. Also, we added 1-methylbenzimidazole into optimized I-/I3- redox couple which is expected to provides not the co-adsorbent’s effect in electrolyte but also the improved electron transfer capacity of the I-/I3- redox couple. J-V curves of DSSCs with 0.16 cm2 active area were tested at the equivalent of one sun at AM 1.5 illumination under the mask of 0.25cm2. Through the analysis of J-V characteristics and Electrochemical Impedance Microscopy, we observed that ionic gel electrolytes offer specific benefits over the ionic liquids. |
