In this study, ACFs were manufactured through physical activation between steam and CO2 using pitch-based carbon fibers, whose raw materials are inexpensive and easy to secure, to investigate the structural changes, such as in the specific surface area and micropore volume, and to evaluate how such changes affect the heavy metal ions adsorptions of ACFs. Surface properties of the ACFs were determined by using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). N2 adsorption isotherms at 77K were investigated by Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET), Horvath-Kawazoe (H-K), and Barret-Joyner-Halenda (BJH) methods to characterize specific surface areas, pore volumes, and pore size distribution. |
