In this study, a polyamine, i.e., 2,5-bis(4,4'-methylenedianiline)-1,4-benzoquinone (BB), was synthesized by reaction of 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl methane (DDM) and 1,4-benzoquinone. The structure of BB was characterized by means of FT-IR and 1H NMR spectroscopy. The effect of BB content on the thermal behaviors, such as cure behaviors, thermal stabilities, glass transition temperature (Tg), and cross-linking density (ρ), of epoxy resins were investigated by using DSC, TGA, and DMA. As a result, the peak maximum temperature of epoxy resins was shifted to lower temperature with increasing the BB content. The thermal stabilities of the cured epoxy samples were constant as the BB content increased. The Tg and ρ values of epoxy samples were systematically decreased with increasing the BB content. This was caused by the addition of BB into the epoxy resins and thus increases the flexible properties of the epoxy network, resulting in decreasing the Tg and ρ values in the blends. |
