Metals and conducting polymers nanorods with high aspect ratio have been extensively investigated because of their potential applications such as field effect transistors, biosensors, nano actuators and drug delivery. In this work, gold-polypyrrole(Au-Ppy-COOH) nano-rods were electrochemically synthesized in porous alumina template controlling their aspect ratio with the electrical current passed. Because the used pyrrole derivative monomer has carboxylic acid group in the molecule, the surface of polymer ends of the rod could be chemically modified with biomolecules such as dye-labeled proteins. We present how one can use gold-polypyrrole nano-rods for sensing biomolecules. The synthesized polymer nano-rods were characterized with AFM, SEM, FT-IR and optical microscope. |
