Heterotrophic microalgae, Aurantiochytrium sp. KRS101 is considered as a feedstock for the production of biodiesel (fatty acid methyl esters, FAMEs) becuase of their high lipid contents (50-60% of dry bioamss). The lipids of Aurantiochytrium sp. KRS101 were mainly composed of free fatty acids (FFAs) that can produce glycerol-free FAMEs by esterification reaction. In addition, Aurantiochytrium sp. KRS101 has thin cell wall, it facilates the FAMEs production from biomass by in-situ process. Therefore, we developed in-situ lipase-catalyzed esterification in dimethyl carbonate (DMC) for production of glycerol-free FAMEs from Aurantiochytrium sp. KRS101. Herein, DMC was used as lipid extraction solvent and reaction medium in esterification for FAMEs synthesis. The effects of the parameters such as microalgae to DMC ratio, water content, microalgae to enzyme ratio, and reaction temperature on the yields of FAMEs were optimized and analyzed. |
