Polymeric materials with large nonlinear optical (NLO) activities are of great interest because of their vast applications in optoelectronic technology, such as telecommunications and optical data storage Because of their good processability and chemical flexibility, polymeric materials are more attractive compared with the traditional inorganic materials. In the developments of NLO polymers, stabilization of electrically-induced dipole alignment is one of important criteria; in this context, two approaches to minimize the randomization have been proposed namely the use of cross-linked systems and the utilization of polymers with high glass transition temperature such as polyimides. In this work we prepared novel polyurethane containing 4-(4-nitrophenylazo)-6-nitroresorcinoxy groups as NLO chromophores, which constitute parts of the polymer backbone. After confirming the structure of the resulting polymer, we investigated its properties. |
