The accident of Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant in Japan released large amounts of radioactive nuclides. Released radioactive nuclides have long-term detrimental effects on human health and agricultural production. In this study, we developed a simple colorimetric chemical sensor in the form of bead using alginate solution. This bead was made by adding the vesicle solution to the alginate solution and then dropping it in the calcium ion solution. The vesicle made of 10,12-pentacosadiynoic acid (PCDA), PCDA-EG4, and PCDA-Me. The end groups of PCDA-EG4 and PCDA-Me used ethylene glycol chain and methyl group, respectively. PCDA was often used as a smart sensing material because of its unique color characteristics from blue to red. The ethylene glycol chain used in this study was known as a selectivity binding site for metal ions. As a result, we added metal ions to the alginate beads and detected metal ions through color changes. |
