Radiolytic Preparation of Anion Exchanging Membranes (AEMs) |

In this study, several anion exchanging membranes (AEMs) were prepared by a simultaneous irradiation grafting method utilizing γ-ray. Poly(vinylbenzyl chloride) was grafted into FEP (poly(tetrafluoroethylene-co-hexafluoropropylene) and ETFE (poly(ethylene-co-tetrafluoroethylene)) with the degrees of grafting of 50 and 70%. The grafted membranes were treated with various amines for the conversion to AEMs. The ion exchanging capacity (IEC), water uptake (WU), thermogravimetry analysis (TGA), and mechanical property of the prepared membranes were investigated and the results are reported in this presentation. |
