The CO2 existing of flue gas produced by the Steam Methane Reforming (SMR) system, which must be captured by a CO2 capturing process to meet the requirement of the Green House Gas (GHG) reduction regulation. In recent studies the oxyfuel combustion process which burns the fuel using pure oxygen is being studied as a pre-or alternative process supporting the CO2 capture process because high purity of CO2 can be captured in the flue gas. In this study, the electrolysis of water is considered as the alternative process of ASU for obtaining pure oxygen for oxy-fuel combustion. Electrolysis breaks water into hydrogen and oxygen, and while the former can be used as the product of SMR, the latter can be used oxyfuel combustion. In this study, the oxyfuel combustion process system is evaluated in terms of the energy/cost-efficiency and it is compared to the traditional post combustion amine-based CO2 capture process. |
