Effect of Mg loss on mechanical properties of electron beam welded A15083 |

In this study, the effect of decreasing Mg concentration on the mechanical properties of an autogenously electron-beam-welded 150 mm-thick A15083 plate was studied. First, full penetration welding was carried out by irradiation with a single electron beam (EB), and then, the weld part was irradiated again under the same conditions. During both EB irradiations, the Mg concentration of the weld part was evaluated by electron probe micro-analysis(EPMA). Further, microstructural evaluation and testing of mechanical properties such as tensile and impact strength were carried out for the purpose of investigating their relationship with Mg loss. According to this study degradation of the mechanical properties was not caused by the electron beam welding(EBW) in spite of decreasing Mg content in A15083. |
