Spectroscopic and mechanical analysis of epoxy acrylate cured by electron-beam irradiation |

BisphenolA type epoxy acrylate (EA) is well known to have a good adhesion, excellent hardness, and chemical resistance. It has been widely used in many applications such as coating, adhesives etc. Compared to conventional polymerization methods of epoxy acrylate such as thermal and UV polymerization, electron-beam (EB) curing has advantages such as fast curing and no need of photoinitiator. EB produces excited species such as free electron and radical which result from energy transfer between high energy electrons and monomer. The polymerization of the monomer is initiated by the excited species. Therefore EA by EB curing reacts fast and needs no additional initiator. EA polymerization by EB will be spectroscopically analyzed using FTIR and Raman spectroscopy. And mechanical properties such as tensile strength and modulus and peel strength will also be presented. From the results we confirm EB curing of epoxy acrylate can be a useful method in electric or electronic applications. |
