Expanded polystyrene (EPS) is a thermal insulation materials with lightweight, rigidity and formability. Due to its structure, Expanded polystyrene (EPS) has good thermal stability and flame retardancy. Since the regulation of building materials has been enforced gradually, EPS, which has good flame retardancy and harmless to humans, are mandatory to apply to the applications. To improve thermal stability and flame retardancy, a wide variety of additive were considered. In this work, Ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) and Melamine were used. Also Expanded graphite (EG), Aluminium trihydroxide (ATH), Melamine phosphate (MPP), Ammonium phosphate (APP) and Talc were used as the flame retardant fillers. The adhesion property and surface morphology of the flame retardant materials coated EPS were characterized by weight loss and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), respectively. Thermal properties were evaluated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). |
