In this work, N-containing pitch-based activated carbons were obtained by mixing the precursors in pitch/THF solution, and the mixture was further activated at high temperatures. The adsorbents prepared in this work contain a large amount of N-containing groups and micropores which is optimum for adsorption of acid gases, i.e. CO2. These properties are distinct from conventional porous carbons that consist of micron-sized or larger skeletons, and whose chemical structure is less controlled. Final products showed high adsorption capacities for CO2 and good regeneration properties at ambient temperature. Cyclic experiments from flue gas condition showed a multiple stabilities between CO2 uptake and textural properties. The amount of nitrogen groups played a crucial role for interacting with CO2 because for their basic characteristics, which have a great affinity with acid gases. |
