Time-resolved Photoluminescence Study on the Green Emission from Oligofluorenes |

Time-resolved spectroscopy experiments on the fluorescence properties of two different chemically well-defined oligofluorenes bearing siloxane-endcapping groups are presented. Both materials exhibited a broad and structureless green emission band centered at around 500 nm in spin-coated pristine films that could be observed in time-delayed fluorescence spectra. Upon annealing the samples in vacuum at 170 °C the green emission completely disappeared and the blue fluorescence from the oligofluorene was recovered, accompanied by an increase in the fluorescence lifetime of the blue component exceeding the fluorescence lifetime in dilute solution. Our results demonstrate that a certain type of aggregation and packing of molecules has a great influence on the emissive properties and can cause contamination of the spectrum with lower energy bands. |
