Phthalocyanines (Pcs), macrocyclic molecules containing 18 delocalized π-electrons, exhibit excellent thermal and chemical stability, along with high tinctorial strength. Pcs have been widely used as pigments and recently extended their application in the electronic, optoelectronic, and electrochemical fields. In spite of these attractive characteristics, most Pcs show strong aggregational tendency, and, especially, poor aqueous solubility limit the application in water-containing medium. To address this problem, we have introduced the polyethylene glycol (PEG) functional groups for the synthesis of α-PEG-substituted and α,β-PEG-substituted metallophthalocyanines (MPcs) (M=Cu, Zn). By doing it, these MPcs are found to exhibit enhanced solubility in water. Synthesized MPCs are thoroughly characterized by NMR and MALDI-TOF-MS. The photophysical properties are analyzed by using UV-Vis and fluorescence spectroscopy. The detailed experimental results will be presented in the poster. |
