In this paper, the dual-catalyst layer of Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) membrane electrode assembly (MEA) was fabricated by electrostatic spray deposition (ESD) method for high performance. ESD is a process that an aerosol of a solution is ejected from metal syringe nozzle with a high applied voltage to a thin film on the counter electrode. The Solution consists of Nafion solution, Pt/C (Platinum on carbon black) and various solvents. The catalyst layer made by ESD has a fractal surface morphology. The catalyst surface morphology was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) image, the cathode electrochemical property and cell performance were measured by Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) and IV-curve. As a result, a high performance (2.0 A/cm2 @ 0.5V) of the PEMFC MEA at a low Pt loading is obtained. |
