Due to its high spatial resolution over the entire tissue, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a powerful imaging modality in clinical applications. MRI contrast agents (CAs), mostly gadolinium-based CAs, are widely used to improve the visibility of a particular tissues or organs of interest. Here, we synthesized gadolinium-based CAs functionalized with phenyl ring that made large-sized inclusion complexes with several PEGylated β-cyclodextrins. We investigated differences of the relaxivities depending on the inclusion conformation and PEG length. Our study may provide a new MRI CAs with PEGylated β-cyclodextrins as good carriers for Gd-chelates with hydrophobic moiety. |
