제목 Chemical Regeneration of Organic Fouled Carbon Electrode Used in Capacitive Deionization
초록 Similarly to every technology involving with the treatment of water, organic fouling is extremely important factor causing such severe operating problem in Capacitive Deionization (CDI). In this work, effect of organic fouling to the CDI operation and a chemical regeneration of the carbon electrode fouled by organic foulant were investigated. Humic acid was used as a model foulant to the fouling formation on carbon electrode surface. After each CDI experiment, alkaline cleaning was performed to understand the reversibility of fouling accumulated on the electrode surface by varying cleaning agent concentrations and times. The carbon electrode fouling caused by organic substance contributed to severe effect of CDI performance, as the carbon pores are blocked and reduced their electrosorption capacitance. Alkaline cleaning solution was able to restore the recovery of CDI performance from fouling.
