Amphiphilic block copolymers as hydrophobic drug carrier |

Formation of micelles, vesicles and emulsion with loading of hydrophobic probe (RS-2A) using amphiphilic block copolymers and the permeation studies will be discussed. In general, amphiphilic block copolymers are very attractive materials from both the scientific and the industrial point of view due to their hydrophobicity/hydrophilic behavior. In the present work styrene (St) is used as hydrophobic monomer/block and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEO) as hydrophilic block. PSt-b-PEO were prepared using RAFT polymerization. PSt were varied as 3k/4k whereas PEO was fixed as 8k. Micelles, vesicles and emulsion were prepared with loading of hydrophobic drug RS-2A by using prepared 3k/4kPSt-b-8kPEO block copolymers. The morphologies of micelles, vesicles and emulsion with dye were characterized using confocal laser scanning microscope. The diffusion of hydrophobic drug RS-2A through mimetic skin (hydrophobic and hydrophilic membranes) will be discussed in detail. |
