Dual-curable isocyanate curing agents blocked by methacrylate-functionalized pyrazoles |

Polyurethane-based automotive clearcoat materials have been developed as a 1K formulation type in order to reduce processing cost. To achieve lowering curing temperature, methacrylate-functionalized pyrazole derivatives were newly synthesized as isocyanate blocking agents. These novel blocking agents were used for blocking commercial isocyanate curing agent known as N3300 and their rheological curing behavior with polyols was investigated by rheometer and rigid-body pendulum tester (RPT) at 110, 120 and 130 ℃. Their results were compared with commercially available PL350. The mechanical properties of cured films were evaluated by nano-indentation tester (NHT3) and pencil hardness test. The novel pyrazole blocking agents contributed to lowering the deblocking temperature as well as enhancing mechanical properties by additional radical polymerization of deblocked pyrazoles resulting in interpenetrating networks. |
