Preparation and characterization of Cu-TiO2 nanoparticles for photocatalysis using sol-gel process |

The present work reports a convenient approach to synthesize copper doped titanium dioxide (Cu-TiO2) suitable for hetereogeneous catalysis in the presence of natural solar light. The samples were essentially synthesized by sol-gel process using titanium oxysulphate as a titania precursor and copper (II) nitrate trihydrate as dopant source. The effect of the dopant on the physic-chemical properties of the samples was studied through varying the Cu content and sintering of the samples at different calcination temperatures ranging from 200 to 800 0C. The properties of the obtained samples were examined by XRD, SEM-EDAX, HRTEM, TGA, UV-vis DRS, and nitrogen physisorption studies. The photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue (MB) in the presence of natural sunlight was attempted to evaluate the practical applicability of the obtained photocatalysts. |
