Anaerobic adhesives are usually used in industry such as sealing and bonding between bolts and nuts, recently have been used in electronic applications as well. The advantage of using anaerobic adhesives is a low reaction temperature comparably to other adhesives. The anaerobic adhesives are cured at room temperature without oxygen through the redox-initiation of peroxide initiator. Initiator reacts through a one electron transfer with lower oxidation state metals to initiate polymerization. Especially, an organic acid and a tertiary amine which act as accelerators for surface activation are important for redox decomposition. Saccharin, as a weak acid, is supposed to act by solubilizing transition metal ions on the metallic substrate surface, but its role is more complex and as yet not fully understood. Therefore, we observed not only the effect of a saccharine on curing times and bonding properties of anaerobic adhesives by using Single Lap Shear Test and Electric Analysis. |
