Programmable stimuli-responsive liquid crystalline polymers |
초록 |
Liquid crystalline polymers have been proven capable of converting various stimuli input (light, heat, chemicals) into mechanical work. We investigated photomechanical and thermomechanical responses of monolithic self-assembled liquid crystalline polymers wherein global manipulation of liquid crystal alignments at a molecular level enabled programmable mechanical actuation on a macroscopic scale upon exposure to light irradiation or to thermal sources. Engineered mechanical responses in liquid crystalline polymer include in-plane bending, oscillation, and out-of-plane torsion. Furthermore, patterning nematic director voxel-by-voxel transformed flat two-dimensional polymer sheets into three-dimensional objects as complex local mechanical actuations were programmed within the monolith. |
