In this discussion, we would like to discuss a facile method to synthesize a hybrid of poly(2-hydroxyethylmethacrylate), a polymer widely employed for biomedical applications, and SiO2 nanoparticles, exhibiting a well-known bioactivity, by employing the thiol-lactam initiated radical polymerization (TLIRP) upon grafting from strategy. The chemical immobilization of PHEMA onto the surface of SiO2 nanoparticles was confirmed by FT-IR, XPS, EDX and XRD analyses. The morphological feature of hybrid nanocomposites was investigated by FE-SEM and TEM. A moderate degree of functionalization of SiO2 nanoparticles by PHEMA using TLIRP grafting from approach was suggested by TGA analysis. It is anticipated that this facile strategy would uncover a cascade of novel fascinating materials for multifarious applications in material science and nanotechnology. |
