제목 | Biotechnological potential of extremophilic bacterium for the production of carotenoids |
초록 | Extremophiles are organisms that can thrivein extreme conditions such as high pressure, temperature, and irradiations. Theysynthesize a wide variety of natural bio-compounds and utilize them to protectthemselves from extreme conditions and survive. Extremophilic microorganisms havebeen received particular interest as an industrial platform strain. Recently, naturalcompounds have received a great deal of attention due to its beneficial effects.In general, these are secondary metabolites that are inherently synthesized by someof living organisms such as plants, bacteria, and fungi. Among them, carotenoids,colorful organic pigments from living organisms havelong been recognized as the most powerful antioxidants due to its featurescomposed of series of C=C bonds that interact with free radicals and singlet oxygen. Here, we report the development of an engineered extremophilic microorganism toproduce various carotenoid through metabolic engineering and processoptimization. |
