The PI-HNTs (halloysite nanotubes) nanocomposites were prepared from poly(amic acid) (PAA) solution as precursor. Pristine PI could be obtained via thermal imidization of PAA produced with 4,4’-(1,3-phenylenedioxy) dianiline (TPE-R) and 3,3',4,4'-benzophenone tetracarboxylic dianhydride (BTDA) in NMP. To improve the mechanical and thermal properties, the precursor were prepared from the dispersion of HNTs (1, 3, 5 wt%) in PAA solution through the different methods such as ultrasonication or planetary mixing, and then thermal imidization was executed. The PI-HNTs nanocomposites were characterized with thermal stability, mechanical properties and morphological analysis. The results demonstrated that the addition of small amount of HNTs and HNTs with treated using planetary mixer led to the improvement in mechanical and thermal properties. The morphology analysis revealed that HNTs dispersion using planetary mixer was more homogeneously than that using ultrasonicator in PI matrix. |
