Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) and polymer composites exhibits enhanced perfomance such as mechanical and electrical properties. but these properties of MWCNT / polymer composites are not so much increased because MWCNTs have poor dispersibility and weak interfacial adhesion with polymer matrix. To enhance dispersibility and interfacial adhesion of MWCNT / polycarbonate (PC) composites, polycarbonate grafted multi-walled carbon nanotubes (PC-g-MWCNT) were fabricated from PC and hydroxyl group modified MWCNT (MWCNT-OH) by reactive extrusion. It has been shown that MWCNT-OH is fabricated by reacting with hydrogen peroxide. During the melt extrusion of polycarbonate and MWCNT-OH composites, hydroxyl group on MWCNT surfaces reacted with carbonate groups of polycarbonate so PC-g-MWCNT were fabricated. The PC / PC-g-MWCNT composite exhibited the best interfacial adhesion and enhanced dispersion in PC matrix. |
