Electroactive conducting polymer actuators based on solid polymer electrolyte NBR/ionic liquid |

We reported herein electrochemical characterizations performed on conducting polymer actuators based on solid polymer electrolyte in dry state. In the actuator fabrication, poly(3, 4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) synthesized in 1.5 M FeCl3-solution on the surface of synthetic rubbers, NBR and actuated in various ionic liquids between +6V and – 6V. Activation of the dry type actuator resulted into active displacement (4- 6 mm) in between –10 V and + 10V at scan rate 400 mV/s. The ionic conductivity of the polyelectrolyte was examined as a function of the immersion time of the ionic liquid, and the cyclic voltammetry responses and the redox switching dynamics of PEDOT in the polyelectrolyte matrix were investigated. No degradation and no decrease of bending-displacement were observed even after a 400 cycles test. |
