Purification of Mg2+ containing solution obtained by leaching Fe-Ni slag |

For further processing the Mg2+ containing solution obtained by leaching Fe-Ni slag was purified to remove impurities such as Fe, Mn, Al. The purification was carried out by a standard technique based on oxidation of transition metals and selective precipitation of metal hydroxides of specific pH values. All the impurities can be substantially precipitated from solution within pH 4-9. 85-95% impurities can be removed. We used Mg(OH)2 to adjust pH at 4-7, NaOCl as a oxidant, and NH4OH as a reagent to adjust pH at 7-9. After a proper adjustment of pH, the purified condition is 10-30g/L Mg(OH)2, 20-100 ml/L NaOCl, 30-100 ml/L NH4OH. The concentration of Mg2+ in the purified solution is 35-50 g/L. |
