Efficient Heterogeneous Selective Oxidation of Amines with Air at Room Temperature, Catalyzed by Ruthenium Hydroxide Mangania |

A supported ruthenium hydroxide catalyst (Ru(OH)x/MnO2) was simply prepared and the efficient heterogeneous catalytic method for aerobic oxidation of amine has been developed. The oxidation reactions of amines to the corresponding nitriles proceeded at room temperature and in air without using any harmful oxidants such as dichromate and permanganate. The Ru(OH)x/MnO2 catalyst showed high selectivity and yield for wide range of substrates like aromatic, aliphatic, and heteroatomic amines under the reaction conditions. The catalyst/product could be easily separated and the catalysis was heterogeneous in nature. The recovered catalyst was reused for several times (at least 10 times) without any catalytic loss of the activity and selectivity. |
