Polythiophene (PT) and its derivatives have been intensively studied for application in polymer solar cells (PSCs). By optimizing the device fabrication conditions, PSCs based on poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) as an electron-donor material have achieved the power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of ≈7% with fullerene derivatives. However, P3HT has a quite large bandgap and limited ionization potential (IP) of 5.0 eV. Thus, we made to design new PT derivative to complement weak points of P3HT. Recently, rapid progress has been made in non-fullerene PSCs based on indacenodithieno[3,2-b]thiophene flanked by 2-(3-oxo-2,3-dihydroinden-1-ylidene)malo-nonitrile end groups (ITIC). ITIC exhibits absorption band in the 600-800 nm, the new PT derivative with absorption spectra complementary to those of the ITIC is strongly desired for achieving optimal light harvesting. In this study, we characterized the new PT derivative and also fabricated the devices based on these polymer with and ITIC. |
