Here in this presentation, noncovalent complexes of polyisobutylene-bound metallophthalocyanines (PIB-MPcs) and SWCNTs were examined as the electrocatalyst for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). PIB-MPcs were prepared by direct tetramerization of PIB-phthalonitrile in the presence of lithium, followed by demetallation, and subsequent insertion of transition metals, such as Co(II), Fe(II) into the central cavity of phthalocyanines (Pcs). Due to nonpolar nature of PIB substituents and flat molecular structure of Pc macrocycles, PIB-MPcs showed high affinity and strong adhesion to SWCNTs, which enabled and stabilized the dispersion of SWCNT in most common solvents. The prepared complexes of PIB-MPcs and Pc-SWCNT complexes were analyzed by multiple characterization methods, including UV-vis, FT-IR, TGA, SEM, and XPS. The electrocatalytic properties toward ORR were evaluated through electrochemical measurements. The effect of central metals on ORR performance was compared. |
