We develop an optimal PID tuning method for single-input-single-output processes that are more versatile than previous tuning methods. It guarantees optimal solutions for the given criterion of the time-weighted integral of the square error. The proposed strategy can systematically incorporate various set point changes and disturbances. Industrial PID controllers like discrete-time controllers, anti-derivative-kick controllers as well as controllers with a lowpass filter can be tuned optimally. Furthermore, the proposed method can give optimal tuning results for various processes of open-loop stable as well as unstable, nonminimum phase ones. |
