In this presentation, we will talk about two different AuNPs that can be used for cellular behavior control and photothermal cancer therapy. We will discuss about modified AuNPs that can be used as a carrier for manganese ion delivery to enhance cellular neurodevelopment without causing cytotoxicity. Mn2+ release from AuNPs was designed to be pH-responsive so that low pH condition of the cell endosomes can trigger in situ release of Mn2+ from AuNPs after cellular uptake of Mn-incorporated AuNPs (MnAuNPs). We will also talk about the use of pH-sensitive aggregative AuNPs (PSAuNPs) loaded in tumor-tropic mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) that can improve the tumor-targeting efficiency and the photothermal effect of AuNPs. PSAuNP-laden MSCs (MSC-PSAuNPs) injected intravenously to tumor-bearing mice showed higher tumor-targeting efficiency and higher heat generation compared to injections of unmodified AuNPs after irradiation, which results in a significantly enhanced anti-cancer effect. |
