Electrospinning has been shown as an efficient and cost-effective way to fabricate the nanofibrous structures. Nevertheless, to be used in actual medicinal practice, electrospun fibres have a critical disadvantage: it can only be fabricated into two-dimensional constructs instead of three-dimensional structures. Recently, Xu et al. presented a novel fabrication method of fluffy scaffolds using polystyrene (PS) without manipulation of the apparatus or the collector. PS, however, is not a biodegradable material which limits the utilization of PS fluffy scaffolds in tissue engineering applications. In this study, We focused on developing the novel methodology of producing electrospun scaffold to generate a variety of representative shapes. This could be used in many regenerative medicinal applications via the specific leaching PS out of PS/poly(e-caprolactone) (PCL) composite fluffy electrospun fibres. |
