From the topological viewpoint, cyclic and multicyclic polymers have attracted research interest in the polymer science over the past few decades because of their absence of chain termini in contrast to their linear counterparts. Therefore a number of methods for the construction of a diversity of polymer topologies have been studied. In spite of vigorous research for the development of methods for synthesizing them, their structure-property correlation study has been limited due to the difficulty in their preparation with high purity. In this study, the highly pure eight-shaped and tricyclic polystyrenes were effectively prepared by combining ATRP and “Click” chemistry with selective fractionation. Their structures were confirmed by 1H NMR, FT-IR spectroscopy and purities were determined by GPC. The effect of multicyclic polymer topologies on glass-transition temperatures was found using DSC. |
