The needs for injectable porous beads made of biodegradable polymers have gradually increased with the developments of drug delivery systems, tissue engineering, and regenerative medicine. The porous beads have been prepared by various methods, however, their low and heterogeneous porosity, small pore size, and difficulty of pore size control are still remained as some limitations. In our previous study, we developed a novel method to fabricate injectable porous beads with controllable pore size and bead size as well as uniform porosity. In this study, the prepared porous beads (400-500 µm) with different pore sizes (25-50 and 50-100 µm) were compared for their cell (chondrocytes) growth behavior with nonporous beads. For injection through syringe needle, the porous beads were mixed with Pluronic F127 solution of determined concentration. Their injectability, tissue response, shape maintenance were also investigated by in vivo animal study using hairless mouse model. |
