Porous polymer beads are widely used as solid supports in solid-phase organic synthesis and as adsorbents in chromatography. However it is hard to control the porosity and the pore size in previously reported methods. In this study, we prepared silica embedded, pore size controllable, porous polystyrene beads by polymerization of styrene monomer with silica nano particles. After removing silica nano particles from silica embedded polystyrene bead porous beads with controlled pore size were obtained. We expect that the pore size controllable porous beads are applicable in various bio applications. |
