Microstructural characterization and annealing effect of SWCNTs via arc-discharge technique |

In order to remove the unreacted metal constituents and amorphous carbon impurities, a post-annealing process has been performed for high-purity single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT). Comparaed to traditional processing techniques, this method involved three different gas atomospheres, such as chlorine, oxygen, and chlorine + oxygen gases, respectively, for efficient removal of impurities. the nanotubes showed the best characteristics when using a mixed gas of chlorine + oxygens. A series of haze meter, UV absorbance, SEM, TEM, and sheet resistance measurements revealed that the post-annealing procedd efficiently removed the unreacted metal and amphous carbon impurities from the bare SWCNTs. The high-purity SWCNTs revealed the best electrical conductivities. Such high-purity SWCNTs can be used in diverse carbon-based composites for increasing the reponse of gas sensors. |
